A selection consists of one or more areas of the drawing and allows drawing operations to be restricted to these areas. The selections can also be copied to the clipboard and pasted into the drawing. The selection tool allows to define zones of various format. The selections are stored in a history and it is possible to recall a selection of this history.


When a selection is active, a message is displayed at the top of the drawing area.


To make a selection:

•Choose the selection tool  in the main toolbar.

•Choose the selection settings from the Selection toolbar.

•Click on the drawing, move the mouse, release the mouse.

•For Polygon and Curve selections, click as many times as you want to add points to the polygon or curve and click the 1st point to close the selection.

•For star-shaped selections it is possible to move the control points to change the shape of the selection


Keyboard shortcut:

•For Polygon or Curve selections, the Backspace key or Ctrl + Delete allows you to delete the last point added

•The Enter key is used to terminate polygon or curve selections without having to click on the first point

•The Escape key cancels the current selection operation.

The Selection Toolbar

Fill the selection. If a selection is active, fills the selection with the color of the brush.

Outline of the selection. If a selection is active, draw a line on the outline of the selection with the brush and the current color.

Select all. Selects all paper

Invert selection.

Deselect. If a selection is active, it is reset.

Previous selection. If several selections have been made, this button recalls the previous selection.

Next selection. If several selections have been made, this button recalls the next selection.

Forme de la sélection

This combo box allows you to define the shape of the selection:

•Rectangle: rectangle-shaped selection

•Ellipse: ellipse-shaped selection

•Polygon: selection defined by a polygon of n points

•Curve: selection defined by a rounded polygon of n points

•Star: star-shaped selection. The number of branches is adjustable in the toolbar

•Rounded star: rounded star-shaped selection.

•Free selection: shape defined by a freehand trace.

Mode de fusion

This combo box makes it possible to choose the mode of combination of the selection zones:

•Replace: the new selection replaces the current selection

•Add: the new selection is added to the current selection, the common fields are merged.

•Subtract: the new selection is removed from the current selection, the common zones are removed.

•Intersection: the new selection is added, only the common parts with the current selection are kept.

Branches

Sets the number of branches of star-shaped selections.
